Monday's New Moon represents a welcome respite from the emotional entanglements of the Pisces line-up of the proceeding week. While many planets remain in Pisces, including obviously the Sun and Moon, the configuration has changed so that Chiron is not so prominent as recently. Also, with the energy shifting forward, there is now less emphasis on introspection. While the value of living in the dark over this past week has been evident in terms of the insights gained, with this new configuration it is time to make a move toward a new direction.
Of course, Mercury is still retrograde, and therefore still bringing an introspective framework to the planetary conversation in this new phase. Also, Mercury in retrograde aspects Chiron, as do Pluto and Saturn. Jupiter squares the Mercury/Chiron midpoint. The archetype of the Wounded Healer is still very much with us in altered form. I would say that the Chironic impulse, that is the mental reflex to question ourselves and to seek to understand our inner wounding, has reached a more universal level.
There is also extraordinary emphasis on Pluto in the 12th degree of Capricorn with Saturn and Chiron in tight sextile and with the Sun and Moon in quintile to that degree. Chiron with Pluto - and with retrograde Mercury - in this context represents the pain of recognizing how distant as a society we are from cosmic purpose. The ideal of divine love is very much in the forefront of our consciousness, every day. And yet the reality on the ground is very far from that ideal
It is also important to note that Venus, while still connected to retrograde Mercury by a parallel aspect, has moved past Chiron and is now much closer the degree of Pisces where the Sun and Moon collide. The emphasis on Venus, without Chiron and with the Sun and Moon in conjunction, is more outgoing and continues to convey the recognition of the overriding importance of love and relationship in our lives to help to see us through. We might be able, in spite of the many distractions, to sense within us our ability to re-dedicate ourselves to this ideal of cosmic love; the rewards are great for so doing.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon degree, the 22nd degree of Pisces, is: "A man bringing down the new law from Sinai." This symbol, couched in terms that were familiar to the medium who channeled these symbols back in 1922, refers to a new mandate for a universal moral code based on a different system of understanding; therefore to the coming of a more holistic approach to life and living, through the principle of universal love. This has come to be known by many names in our current setting, all reflecting a fundamental changing of the guard.
We live in perilous, fraught, and exciting times. We are witnessing nothing less than the thorough-going transformation of our society, here in the West but also world-wide since we live in what is indeed rapidly becoming a truly global civilization. As a famous sage once said, we must remember that chaos always precedes new birth. So as we go through our difficult days with the recognition of everything around us falling apart, we can therefore take heart: do not dwell on the chaos, but await the birth.
