Thursday’s Sagittarius New Moon, taking place late evening December 6th for the West Coast, early morning the next day for the East Coast and Europe, is a very interesting configuration involving outer planet and inner planet combinations. Although not involving Pluto, prominent over this past summer in the New Moon and Full Moon configurations, this current setup does involve Mercury, Venus, Mars, Neptune, Eris, Uranus, and another Kuiper-belt planet newly named, Haumea. This last, an earth goddess energy named for the creation goddess of the Hawaiian culture, has not been much researched by astrologers since its discovery and naming in 2006 to 2008, but yet she is proving to be quite significant in natal charts and by transit, representing a powerfully spiritual connection with Nature and with natural law. The New Moon is square to a partile Mars-Neptune conjunction in mid-Pisces, itself suggestive of a potent spiritual component to all our actions now, an emphasis that could also veer off into fantasy, deception or over-idealism. An ameliorating factor is represented by Haumea in late Libra, just coming to her retrograde station in the same degree of 26 plus of Libra that she has occupied since the middle of last month. Haumea thus currently remains exactly opposed to the Eris/Uranus midpoint of 26:02 Aries. This particular configuration was active all through November, and is still a big factor in the lunations of this month and through early 2019. In the present New Moon patterning, a stationing Mercury in trine with a stationing Chiron are also involved, being at the 27-degree mark of their respective signs, Scorpio and Pisces. This is quite a combination of energies, and signifies sudden realizations of archaic wounding coming to greater conscious recognition for the purpose of taking action; action involving earth issues being one possible outcome. It is quite interesting to see in this upcoming New Moon a reference to a coming together (Libra) on earth issues (Haumea) at a time when 20 countries have reiterated the need for action on global warming (with one notable hold out) and when the U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is calling for concerted action on this very issue. In the U.S. there is also a heightened concern in the wake of the most destructive wildfire in the nation’s history, having operated with an intensity that can be laid at the feet of global warming.
Venus in early Scorpio makes an interesting chime with the spiritual presence of Haumea in the Venus-ruled sign of Libra, especially because Venus was in partile conjunction with Haumea when she stationed to direct motion in the middle of last month. She is still recovering her zodiacal longitude this current month. In the December 6th New Moon configuration, Venus is opposed to Uranus and also contra-parallel, implying that sudden realizations could arise concerning every aspect of relationship over the course of this important lunation cycle. Partners might be recognized for who they are, either enhancing or bursting the bubble of our ideals; also up for reconsideration would be our very understanding of the impact of relationship in our lives. Our values, too, will be subject to new understandings, potentially to awakenings that will affect the way we see ourselves moving forward over the next month and even year. The Winter Solstice coming up on December 21st features a close Sun-Uranus trine and Sun in semi-square to Venus, continuing the emphasis on both in this chart indicating themes for 2019.
With the Eris-Uranus interaction being recently highlighted, the effect of discovering more about our values can find its outlet in consistent action. Eris is a Feminine Warrior archetype – or you could say “spiritual warrior” – that when activated speaks to taking action that makes a chime with our deepest values. This is indeed the time for concerted action, on the part of each one of us, for that in which we most deeply believe. As Marianne Williamson reminds us, in her famous quote beginning “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure,” there is no point in “acting small.” When you can succeed in articulating what you stand for, and follow that up with your economic or your political vote, amazing things can happen. You need no longer feel powerless when you have done your best. And by your activity, you can inspire others to find their own voice.
