Monday afternoon's New Moon in Sagittarius indeed presents quite an amazing combination of outer planet energies. This is because at the 11th degree of Sagittarius the Sun and Moon connect with Uranus and Pluto, as well as Chiron, the Wounded Healer, bringing up quite poignantly once again the extreme depth of transformational power that is in our lives at this important turning of the year, both individually and also collectively. The Sun is also exactly parallel to Jupiter in Cancer, symbolizing hope for a better future than the recent divisive past would seem to indicate. As Jupiter moves backward through the sign of Cancer, it is nearing the opposition point to Pluto, which it reaches by the end of January. Along the way, as Jupiter comes into closer alignment with exactly opposing Pluto, Mars moves to oppose Uranus, giving us a grand cross involving these significant outer planet energies that completes on December 25th, 2013, Christmas Day.
Uranus and Pluto in combination signal revolution in each of our lives, from within. This has us wondering, where it is that we harbor old patterns of behavior that we are ready to let go of, in the name of our own developmental progress. As we consider entering into a better personal future for ourselves, we are also dealing with fears regarding what we are capable of in this regard, as symbolized by Chiron, the Wounded Healer, strongly highlighted in this New Moon configuration, in the ethereal sign of Pisces. This presence of Chiron reminds us that our mission, to grow and transform, is essentially a spiritual one, a sacred quest, if you will, to become the wild, free and truthful beings that we are capable of becoming.
Along with Jupiter providing an extra touch of magical wish-fulfilling positivity, there is also dour and grim old Saturn, in close trine with Jupiter, an aspect that becomes more exact as the first two weeks of December unfold. Saturn provides both a balance point, a useful dose of cautionary energy for focusing and for holding back from excess that is truly valuable, and also a polarity of conservativism that could be merely reactive to what seems too far out to even consider. We have to decide, in each moment, which version of reality is operating for us and whether the conservative approach that we feel drawn to is recommended, or is really just our fear talking.
The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon degree is a bit mysterious. In a phrase that reminds us of left- versus right-brain awareness, the symbol is: "The lamp of physical enlightenment at the left temple." We might think of the body as temple, or of the left side of a person's head, known as the temple. We might also remember that the left side of the physical body corresponds to the right brain, the artist's brain, the seat of gestalt conceptualizing. In explicating this symbol, Marc Edmond Jones declares its concept to be "personal effectiveness through an intelligent capitalization on past achievement."
In honor of prominent Jupiter at this time, we might take hope in the power of art and intuition to change our lives for the better, reflecting as we do that the power of right-brain artistic conception has been too long neglected in our current society in favor of logical ratiocination. It seems that mere logic will not save us from ourselves; that we have gotten as far along that path as it can take us. We do perhaps ultimately need a rescue by the power of grace, acting in our lives in alignment with a benevolent cosmos. If we can abandon our fear, and our dependence on purely logical thinking at the expense of the creative right-brain presence, symbolized by goddess, that is equally fundamental to our being, we might find ourselves enabled to rely on Spirit to take us the rest of the way home.
With the massive changes that are happening now, I highly recommend that folks get a transit report tailored specifically to their chart for the most accurate description of what's in store for you in the months ahead.
